How to Care for your Candles ♥
Every time you light your candle, ensure that an even melt pool of wax is formed. This will tend to take 2-3 hours. If you burn your candle for less time, this can cause the wax to ‘tunnel’, which is when a build-up of wax is left around the edge of the vessel. This will reduce the burn time of your wonderful candle
When you light your candle, do so in a well-ventilated room. Make sure there are no drafts as this can cause sooting, fast and uneven burning.
Never leave your burning candle unattended. If there is one sure-fire way to burn the house down, this might be it.
If you burn for over 4 hours at a time, this can cause the wick to slant, and when the wax cools, can cause an uneven burn the next time you light it.
Stop burning your candle when 10mm of wax remains at the bottom, keeping an eye on a burning candle when the wax is low. This is because the vessel will not be able to absorb and dissipate the heat from the burning wax, which can cause it to shatter.
Keep the wax pool clear of wick trimmings and matches, as debris in the wax can act as a secondary wick, encouraging your candle to burn faster.
Straighten the wick after you have extinguished you candle with a snuffer.
Trim your wick to prevent ‘mushrooming’ of the wick. This is where a high flame and smoking can occur. Trimming the wick to 5mm (when the wax has set) following every burn is the easiest way to prevent this.
Remove any debris from the melt pool. Leaving debris can cause it to act as a second wick, and the burn time of the candle to be reduced.
